Women’s Golf Signs 2025 Big West Freshman Of The Year Alona Avery

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's golf announced the addition of Alona Avery to the 2026-27 roster on Tuesday.
Avery, a rising junior from Riverside, California, spent her first two seasons at UC Irvine. She comes to Starkville sporting an impressive resume, earning 11 top 20 finishes in 18 tournaments as an underclassman.
In her freshman campaign, she ranked second among all Anteaters with a 73.22 scoring average, playing in all 27 rounds. She recorded six finishes inside the top 20, five of which were in the top 10. In her collegiate debut, Avery earned a runner-up finish as she recorded a 9-under 207 at the Wolverine Invitational, the third-lowest round in program history.
Throughout two seasons, Avery has recorded 21 par or better rounds in her career, seven of which have come in the 60s, including a career-low 5-under 67 in her freshman campaign. Avery was named the 2025 Big West Freshman of the Year and earned All-Big West First Team Honors.
