CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After firing off a 2-over round in the opening day of the Chapel Hill Regional, the 17th-ranked Mississippi State women's golf team sit in a tie for fourth place entering the second round of action on Tuesday.

The Dawgs were led by junior Avery Weed in the opening round, who shot 1-under on the par-70 course at UNC Finley Golf Club. This was Weed's 20th par or better round this season, tying her single season best that she set during her sophomore campaign. Weed recorded a team-leading four birdies on the round. Weed was one of 11 golfers to shoot an under-par round in the opening day and is T5 individually entering the second round.

Junior Samantha Whateley was able to provide a solid round for the Bulldogs, as she finished the day at even par. The day marked the 12th par or better round of her season, the most that she has recorded in one season since she has been a Bulldog. She sits one stroke outside of the top ten.

Ines Belchior settled in on the back nine and contributed a 1-over score to the Bulldog card. After starting her day with no birdies on the front, she was able to record consecutive birdies on the par-4 15th and par-5 16th to improve her card down the stretch. Belchior enters the second round, T18.

Like her freshman teammate, Moa Stridh also recorded back-to-back birdies on holes 15&16. Stridh ultimately finished her day 2-over par, rounding out the counting scores for the Bulldogs.

State sits eight strokes back of the leaders, North Carolina, entering Tuesday's second round. The Bulldogs will look to stay consistent on Tuesday to position themselves to record a top five finish in Wednesday's concluding round, which would see them advance to the NCAA Championship.
