Mississippi State Is Set to Play their First Set of Road Matches
February 11, 2026 | Women's Tennis
Mississippi State women's tennis is set for its first true road swing of the season, traveling to face Furman University and Georgia Tech this week.
The Bulldogs will head to Paladin territory for a midweek match up after their first three scheduled road contests were canceled due to weather. State will take on Furman at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, before traveling to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Mississippi State looks to continue its strong non-conference play under head coach Chris Hooshyar. The Bulldogs have compiled a 26–3 record in non-conference action across his time here at State.
State enters the week riding momentum from a weekend sweep in Starkville. On Friday, Feb. 6, the Bulldogs defeated Georgia Southern 5–2 before earning a 4–0 shutout over Alcorn State. On Sunday, MSU completed its third doubleheader of the season with a 6–1 victory against Louisiana Tech and a 4–0 win over Bellarmine.
In doubles play, the nationally ranked tandem of Gianna Oboniye and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz sits at No. 9 in the ITA Doubles Rankings. The duo captured its first win together this season with a dominant 6–0 victory over Georgia Southern's Mackenzie Leopold and Evelyn Warkentin.
Furman recently traveled to North Carolina, where it fell to Charlotte 5–2. Mississippi State is no stranger to Furman's campus, having competed in the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic annually since 2017. The only previous dual match meeting between the two programs came in 2021, when the Bulldogs defeated the Paladins 6–1 in Greenville.
State has faced Georgia Tech just twice in program history, with the most recent meeting coming in 1991 with a 5–4 Bulldog victory. The Yellow Jackets join a group of non-conference opponents that Mississippi State has historically remained unbeaten against, as MSU looks to extend that mark this weekend.
