- After getting out to fast starts in weeks one and two against ULM and Minnesota, Mississippi State fought through adversity to get comeback wins in games three and four.
- The Bulldogs were down 16-0 at South Carolina in week three before going on a 41-7 scoring run in the middle of the game to pull away from the Gamecocks in the SEC opener.
- A week later, Missouri went on a 24-3 run during the second and third quarters, but State charged back with 14 unanswered in the fourth quarter to beat the then-19th-ranked Tigers.
