Bulldogs Return To Action Friday Morning
September 12, 2024 | Cross Country
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Mississippi State cross country will compete at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala. on Friday morning.
MSU will toe the line at John Hunt Cross Park at 10 a.m. CT.
"We are excited for the opportunity to compete at this level," head coach Chris Woods said. "Our women have been working hard and we know they are prepared for our first big challenge in the early part of the season."
State lines up against conference foes Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt, among 58 teams.
This meet will serve as the season opener for most of the squad, highlighted by returners Madison Jones, Ramat Jimoh, Hunter Anderson, and Jaelyn Ogle. These athletes all hold times on the MSU all-time top 20 list and look to improve their 5k personal bests, all set at last year's Southern Showcase.
Sophomores Brooklyn Quanz, Mallory Streetman, and Madelyn Keating will open their seasons Friday morning. Like the other returners, the trio ran their fastest 5k during their freshman season at this meet.
Rounding out the lineup are Gabrielle Boulay, Kaitlyn Burge, Gracie Gibson, Trinity Holland, Morgan Grace Sheffield, and Reese Terza.Â
State is coming off a second place team finish at the City Auto Memphis Twilight XC Classic, where the squad earned 64 points. Three athletes made their collegiate college debut and two improved on personal bests, all of which are included in the lineup for Friday morning.
At this meet last year, State earned seven personal bests between returners and freshman improving on their season-opening times. The team finished seventh out of 39 teams, totaling 213 points.
Live results will be available on Xpresstiming.com and a live stream will be available on Youtube.com
