State Finishes Eighth At The Southern Showcase
September 13, 2024 | Cross Country
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Mississippi State Cross Country took home eighth at the Southern Showcase on Friday morning.
"Really solid race for our team and it was great to get the majority of the squad out there," assistant coach Erinn Stenman-Fahey said. "Was really happy with how our women worked together throughout the race, especially 3-5. The group is definitely trending in the right direction and I'm excited to see how they keep improving throughout the season."
The squad was led by sophomore Ramat Jimoh, finishing 13th and clocking 17:10.46 in the 5k. She dropped 41 seconds off her previous personal best, which she set at this race last season. State's next fastest finisher was Gabrielle Boulay, clocking 17:28.27 and finishing 32nd. She improved her 5k time from the season opener, running 17:28.27 for a new personal best. Both athletes' performances put them on the MSU records list for the 5k, with Jimoh at No. 4 and Boulay at T-No. 9 all-time. Jimoh also earned an award for her 13th place finish, the highest by an MSU runner in recent history.
Next in the lineup to finish were Madison Jones, Hunter Anderson, and Kaitlyn Burge, finishing 72nd, 73rd, and 74th, respectively. Anderson improved on her 5k personal best which she ran at the 2023 Southern Showcase. Burge improved on her 5k time from the season opener, dropping 41 seconds off her previous personal best, to round out the scoring runners.
The next two finishers were Morgan Grace Sheffield and Trinity Holland, serving as the team's displacers, finishing 82nd and 85th. Holland has set personal bests in the 5k in both races thus far this season. Rounding out the finishers were Mallory Streetman in 105th, Jaelyn Ogle in 136th, Madelyn Keating in 148th, Brooklyn Quanz in 154th, Reese Terza in 160th, and Gracie Gibson in 223rd.
