STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women's tennis team concludes its month-long road trip to open the 2020 season this weekend (Feb. 1-2), as they travel to Oxford, Mississippi, to meet Big 12 foes Texas Tech and Baylor, as a part of the SEC/Big 12 Weekend. All matches will be held at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center on the Ole Miss campus.
State (4-1) is set to take on Texas Tech (1-1) on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT before facing Baylor (3-0) on Sunday, also in a Noon start. TTU and host Ole Miss (3-1) were set to kick off the weekend Friday at 1 p.m.
MSU holds a 2-1 advantage over the Red Raiders all-time, with the last meeting and lone setback coming in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Team Championship in Lubbock, Texas. Saturday's match marks the first neutral site contest between the two programs. The Bulldogs and Bears will compete for the first time ever on Sunday.
Last weekend, the Maroon and White traveled to Durham, North Carolina, to compete in the 2020 ITA Kick-Off Weekend in which State dropped its first match to Tulsa in a tight 4-3 decision before rebounding to post a 4-2 victory over Kansas State.
Bulldog true freshman Alexandra Mikhailuk has clinched two matches for the Bulldogs this season and is tied for the team lead in wins with fellow rookie Marta Falceto.
State has dominated in doubles action this spring, having claimed all five doubles points and owns a 11-1 record in dual match play. The 43rd-ranked tandem of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine pace the Bulldogs with four wins at the No. 1 position, while No. 45 Emma Antonaki and Mikhailuk, as well as Falceto and Sara Lizariturry, hold perfect 3-0 records in the second and third positions.
Following this weekend's action, State will enjoy a week off before opening its 2020 home schedule on against UAB in a 3 p.m. Valentine's Day start at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
