MSU Women’s Tennis Falls To Texas Tech, 4-1, In SEC/Big 12 Challenge

OXFORD, Miss. – Mississippi State women's tennis fell to Texas Tech 4-1 on Saturday on the opening day of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
Texas Tech (2-2) tied the overall series between the two programs at 2-2 with the victory. With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 4-2 overall.
The Red Raiders grabbed an early 1-0 lead after clinching a very close doubles point. State's Marta Falceto and Sara Lizariturry opened the day with a convincing 6-3 victory over TTU's Kennedy Bridgforth and Reagan Collins on court 3. State's 45th-ranked tandem of Emma Antonaki and Alexandra Mikhailuk were handed their first setback of the 2020 campaign by TTU's Olivia Peet and Margarita Skriabina 6-4 at No. 2. On court 1, 43rd-ranked Bulldogs Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine then fell in the deciding match to Lisa Mays and Nell Miller in a 7-6(3) decision.
Texas Tech claimed four of the six first sets in singles to keep its momentum going and ultimately claim the match. The Red Raiders extended their lead to 3-0 with wins on courts 4 and 1. State's Mikhailuk fell to Bojana Marinkov 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4, while MSU's No. 84 Antonaki dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Peet on court 1.
Falceto then earned State's lone point of the afternoon, ousting Tech's Bridgforth in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 on court 6 to cut TTU's lead to 3-1. The true freshman Falceto owns a team-leading 5-1 mark in her rookie dual match campaign.
Texas Tech's Miller then clinched the match for the Red Raiders with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Bulldog Valeria Nikolaev at the No. 5 spot.
The last two matches on courts 2 and 3 were suspended at that point. Texas Tech's Skriabinia led MSU's Racine 6-1, 5-3 on court 2, while the Bulldogs' Adaloglou and TTU's Mays were in the first game of the third set.
The Bulldogs look to bounce back against Baylor on Sunday in Oxford. The match between the Bulldogs and Bears is scheduled for a Noon CT start time at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center on the Ole Miss campus.
