Joey Bailey was named Deputy Athletics Director for Strategic Initiatives and Administration at Mississippi State on Feb. 6, 2023. Bailey, who previously served as Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Initiatives at the University of Oklahoma, is responsible for driving and executing cross-functional engagement within the athletics department, evaluating and improving internal functions and processes, while also advising on stakeholder and public relations initiatives. In addition, she will assist with oversight and planning of special projects within the department and coordinate strategic planning initiatives, creating the first strategic plan in department history.
At the University of Oklahoma, Bailey was a member of the senior leadership team for well-known and respected university athletics director Joe Castiglione. She was responsible for strategic initiatives including the creation of a strategic plan, execution of special projects, strategic communications, and advisor to the athletics director. Bailey, who was the sport administrator for rowing, was also a key member of the SEC Transition committee which studied and prepared OU for the transition into the Southeastern Conference. Prior to her time in strategic initiatives at OU, Bailey was responsible for synergizing external units, a specific focus to revolutionize OU Athletics into a 21st Century athletics department model that launched in August of 2021, resulting in nationally recognized record-breaking crowds and historic revenue achievements.
Before Bailey’s focus on broader external units, Bailey spent five years with the Sooner Club, which is the fundraising arm for OU Athletics. During this time, Bailey was responsible for the creation of the first stewardship strategy and execution for OU, the first Sooner Club Communications Team, oversaw the vision, planning and execution for the statue unveilings for legendary coach Bob Stoops, Heisman winner Baker Mayfield, and the accomplished Selmon Brothers. Bailey led the donor engagement team which focused on donor relations, donor experiences and special events, communications, and letterwinner engagement. Additionally, Bailey spearheaded the launch of the Women of Championship Excellence initiative that was a dedicated fundraising emphasis for women’s sport programs for OU and in its first year established, raised just over $25.2 M for female-focused facility projects.
Prior to arriving at OU, Bailey worked with Legends, The Dallas Cowboys, and IMG Properties.
No stranger to the SEC, Bailey was a member of the Arkansas Razorback women’s basketball team and earned her bachelor of arts in journalism, with an emphasis in public relations and advertising in 2014, and her master of business administration in 2016 from the Sam Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas.
