Ferrie's Record-Setting Night Memorable In Many Ways

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's "White Out" win over No. 19 Missouri will be remembered for a long time and for many reasons.
A sellout crowd at Davis Wade Stadium saw the 24th-ranked Bulldogs secure a 31-24 victory, their first in a top 25 matchup at home since surging to the top of the college football world in 2014.
Kamario Taylor threw for 360 yards and three touchdowns while Fluff Bothwell and Anthony Evans III each eclipsed the century mark respectively in rushing and receiving. MSU even set a Guinness Book of World Records by having the most people simultaneously ringing cowbells.
However, those were not the only key moments or even the lone record broken on the eventful evening. Not by a longshot. Senior kicker Kyle Ferrie booted a 28-yard field goal in the third quarter, sent four extra points through the uprights on Saturday to become the Bulldogs' all-time leader with 49 career field goals, 131 extra points and 278 total points.
"It's one of those things you dream of for so long," Ferrie said. "I've had it in my phone since I was a freshman that I was going to do this. So, to see it happen, there are so many people behind the scenes. You can't kick a ball without a block, a snap or a hold. All those guys — I've had a different operation all four years I've been here — so many people have gone into this."
Even as awesome as it was for Ferrie to see his name surpass legends like Anthony Dixon, Nick Fitzgerald, Artie Cosby and Jace Christmann in the school's annals, the lifelong State fan was prouder to see his beloved Bulldogs pull out a monumental win.
"After [the records] happened, all I thought was, 'Man, let's go win this game now'," Ferrie said. "We have got to win this game. Breaking records is cool, but winning is a lot more cool. So, being able to do that puts the cherry on top for sure."
Ferrie has been State's starting kicker since he walked onto the football team as a true freshman in 2023. The left-footer from Searcy, Arkansas has connected on 49 of his 61 career field goal attempts and has converted 131 of 132 PATs, including an active streak of 94 straight.
"I knew this is where I wanted to be," Ferrie said. "There's nowhere else I'd rather be in the entire world. So, there was never a thought in the back of my head like, "All right, let's get out of here and go chase money, chase wins or go chase anything'. I knew we could do it here. We can do it. It might take time, but I'm willing to stretch it out and do it."
Ferrie's patience and perseverance is finally paying off in his senior campaign. Individually he is 6-of-7 on field goal tries with a long of 52 yards and has helped his team get off to a 4-0 start while earning national respect and admiration on a weekly basis.
"We find ways to win," Ferrie said. "We've got winners. That's what it is. We've got winners wearing the headsets and we've got winners wearing the helmets. When you've got both of those, you can be really, really successful."
