STARKVILLE โ Mississippi State edge Amaree Williams has been named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week following a standout performance in the Bulldogsโ week three victory at South Carolina.
Williams led the Bulldogs with 10 tackles, all solo, anchoring a dominant defensive effort. His disruptive afternoon in Columbia featured two tackles for loss totaling five yards, including a one-yard sack, and a quarterback hurry. He also intercepted a pass early in the game, though the play was negated by a penalty.
Williams and the Bulldog defense held the Gamecocks to -15 yards across 10 plays during their first four drives of the second half. That defensive resilience kept South Carolina at bay and paved the way for State to complete its largest road comeback win since 2021.
Mississippi now stands as one of only two teams in the nation boasting multiple road wins against Power Four opponents this season. Williams and the No. 24-ranked Bulldogs will look to carry that momentum forward as they take on No. 19 Missouri at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday.
