Weed Named To WGCA Player Of The Year Watch List
May 07, 2026 | Women's Golf
FRISCO, Texas – Avery Weed was named to the Division 1 PING WGCA Player of the Year watch list on Thursday, the Women's Golf Coaches Association announced. She was one of 12 players to be recognized.
Â
The PING WGCA Player of the Year is awarded annually to the best player in Division I women's golf. Each player must complete a minimum of 15 rounds during the competitive year, including NCAA Regional Championships.
Â
Weed, a junior from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, has had a standout season. She has finished inside the top 20 of all but two of State's stroke play events this season and started the year with five consecutive top five placements. This includes her third career collegiate victory at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, where she finished 14-under par, making her one of only two golfers to finish under par in the event.
Â
Weed has finished par or better in 19 of her 27 rounds this season, including nine rounds in the 60s, the fourth most that a golfer has recorded in a single season in program history. It brings her career total to 21 rounds in the 60s, the third-best mark of any Bulldog golfer in program history. Her 50 career par or better rounds ranks fourth among all-time State golfers. She is shooting for a 70.22 average this season, the best single-season mark of her career.
Â
Weed and the Bulldogs will continue their postseason journey in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, which kicks off on Monday, May 11.
