STARKVILLE – Mississippi State track and field concluded the first two days of competition at the Alumni Bulldog Relays. Â
Thursday's events began in the women's hammer, with Marie Rougetet being the sole representation for the Bulldogs. She led the competition from her first throw, blowing out the competition with her fifth-round effort of 67.29m. Her mark led the field by nearly 10 meters and was less than 10 centimeters off her personal best program record. Â
The day concluded in the men's hammer, with Juha Narhi, Caleb Kaplan and Thomas Matlock competing for the Bulldogs. Narhi took the win with a third-round 64.55m throw. His throw is the new program record in the hammer, a record that stood for nearly 33 years. Â
Kaplan also earned a personal best in the event, throwing 60.60m to improve his third-best throw in program history. Matlock also made his collegiate debut in the hammer.Â
Action continued on Friday, beginning in the discus, with Kevin Grubbs making his outdoor debut as a Bulldog in strong fashion. Grubbs launched a sixth round 55.44m throw for the third farthest mark in program history. Â
Alla Parnov competed in the pole vault, earning 3.90m for the fourth-highest jump in program history.Â
The women's 4x800m relay earned the first event win of the day, crossing the line in 9:01.08. The relay, made up by Trinity Holland, Hunter Anderson, Milicent Kemboi and Gabrielle Boulay, dominated the field for the entirety of the race, leading by 17 seconds at the finish. Â
Sherman Hawkins earned the second event win for the day in the 200m, crossing the line in 20.76 for a new personal best. Nicholas Fakorede and Cooper Rodgers both earned personal bests over the distance, finishing closely behind Hawkins.Â
The day concluded in the men's long jump, with Marquise Washington winning the event with an outdoor personal best of 7.28m. Â
Competition will conclude with tomorrow's events, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the women's javelin. The meet will also feature the alumni recognition and fastest kid around race, both to be held tomorrow afternoon. The meet will be held at the Mike Sanders Track Complex, with free admission.Â
