
No. 16 Women’s Golf Splits Matches In Opening Day Of Old Barnwell Derby Match Play

AIKEN, S.C. – Mississippi State women's golf split their first two matches of the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play, earning a victory over the No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels in the morning and falling to the fifth-ranked Auburn Tigers in the second round of the day.
Avery Weed and Izzy Pellot both won their individual matches in the opening day of action. Weed defeated both of her opponents in 15 holes, earning two 4&3 victories, meaning she held a four-hole advantage that could not be overtaken with only three holes remaining to play. Weed never trailed to either of her individual opponents throughout the day.
Pellot started her day with a 3&2 victory in the win against Ole Miss. Pellot never trailed in the match, as she won the first hole of the day and built her lead to as large as four holes. Against Auburn, Pellot finished the match with a one-hole advantage after regaining the lead on the 16th and holding it throughout the day.
Moa Stridh earned her first collegiate match play victory as she helped the Bulldogs defeat the rival Rebels with a 1UP victory. Ines Belchior fell short of earning her first victory, as she ended the 18 holes against Auburn tied, and ultimately fell in 22 holes.
