Blake Shapen Earns Multiple Weekly Passing Honors

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State quarterback Blake Shapen was named one of the week two Davey O'Brien Great 8 passers while also being recognized as one of the Manning Stars of the Week following State's upset victory over No. 12 Arizona State on Saturday.

In Saturday's primetime matchup, Blake Shapen threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-33 passing. His three touchdown passes went for 48 yards, 47 yards and 58 yards. The 58-yarder came in the fourth quarter with 30 seconds to play and proved to be the game-winner.

With his efforts on Saturday, Shapen became the first Mississippi State quarterback since Nick Fitzgerald on Oct. 29, 2016, to throw three or more 45+ yard touchdown passes in the same game. It was also his second straight game throwing for over 270 yards and the fourth game in his Bulldog career with at least 250 yards passing.

Following Saturday's contest, Shapen has now thrown a touchdown pass in 17 straight games. That streak is the second-longest active streak at the FBS level behind Iowa State's Rocco Becht (21 games).
