March 22, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – Mississippi State women's basketball will advance to the round of 32 for the second time in three seasons after they took down the California Golden Bears, 59-46. The Bulldogs only trailed once in the contest, which was when Cal got the first point of the game on a free throw.
The Mississippi State defense excelled throughout the contest. The Bulldogs held the Golden Bears to their second lowest total of the season. In the first quarter, Cal only scored five points on 2-13 shooting. The five points marked the least amount of points the Bulldogs have given to any opponent in the first quarter and was the lowest mark of any quarter for Cal all season. The Bulldogs also forced Cal to their lowest
Madina Okot excelled on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. She scored 14 points on 50 percent shooting, along with 13 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. It was the 12th time she has collected a double-double this season.
Eniya Russell finished with 14 points as well, tying Okot for the team lead. She shot 5-11 from the floor, the best mark of any Bulldog who took five or more shots. Jerkaila Jordan collected 10 points, her 27th game in double figures on the season. She also collected four steals and two blocks.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday, March 24, when they take on the top-seeded USC Trojans. Tipoff time and TV network are still to be announced.
