Bulldogs Travel To Clemson For Orange And Purple Invite
January 23, 2025 | Track & Field
CLEMSON, S.C. – Mississippi State track and field will make their first appearance as a whole squad at the Orange and Purple Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina, this weekend.
"We had a great season opener last week but that's not to say that we are going to rest our hats on that," said head coach Chris Woods. "We are coming to attack our events and leave the competition with multiple NCAA qualifiers. That's our goal and objectives for this week and that's what we intend to do."
MSU will compete against conference foes Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee, as well as UCF, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and App State. The meet will be available to stream on the ACCNX, and live results can be found here.
The Bulldogs will compete both on and off the track at Clemson. The field events will start at 11:00 a.m. with the women's pole vault and the track events will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the men's 1000m. Friday's competition will consist of the long jump, weight throw, 600m, 60m, 60m hurdles, mile, and 400m races.
After a record-book performance in his MSU debut, Nicholas Fakorede looks to improve his 60-meter time this weekend. Roury McCloyen will compete in the weight throw and shot put, and Kennedy Stringfellow will compete in the long jump after setting personal bests and MSU top-five marks last weekend. Gabrielle Boulay had a major showing in the 3000m at the Vanderbilt Invitational and looks to make some noise in the mile and 800m races.
Friday is set to be an action-filled day, with 48 entries amongst 16 events. Saturday will be met with the same energy, having 15 events contested, capped with the 4x400m relays to close the weekend. The squad will see many athletes compete in the same events as the season opener, offering a chance to improve on their debut times and marks. Abdullahi Hassan and Louis Vercueil will make their MSU debut in the 800m after strong performances in the 1000m and the relays last weekend.
