Five Personal Bests Set At Joe Piane Invitational
October 04, 2024 | Cross Country
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Mississippi State cross country team held its own against the best in the country at the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday morning, finishing 22nd with 489 points.
"I thought the girls ran well individually- we executed on some key parts of the race that we wanted to work on today," assistant coach Erinn Stenman-Fahey said. "Still need to put some more pieces of the puzzle together, but I'm confident we can get there by championship season."
The first Bulldog to cross the line was Gabrielle Boulay, finishing 59th with a time of 17:04.1, a 24-second improvement on her personal best and No. 4 all-time at MSU. Ramat Jimoh was the next finisher, clocking in at 17:28.6 and placing 97th. Hunter Anderson crossed the line soon after, running a personal-best 17:33.6 and finishing 105th.
Madison Jones and Morgan Grace Sheffield rounded out the scorers for State, with Jones running a seasons-best 17:48.7, and Sheffield clocking a personal-best 17:54.5.
Kaitlyn Burge and Trinity Holland were the team's displacers, setting personal bests of 17:56.3 and 18:01.4, respectively. Both Burge and Holland have set personal bests in every race this season.
Next up for the Bulldogs…
The Bulldogs will send a small group to the Belhaven Invitational in Clinton, Mississippi, on Oct. 5. The squad then heads just across the state line to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the Crimson Classic on Oct. 18.
