Diamond Dawgs Take the Series from No. 23 Alabama

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs took game two and the series from the No. 23 Alabama Crimson Tide with an 8-1-win Saturday. The win was the Dawgs' fifth straight and improved State to 32-15 overall and 14-9 in SEC play.
Mississippi State kept the foot on the gas with 10 hits on the day. The pitching staff controlled the game striking out eight of the Crimson Tide's lineup and allowing just one run in the game.
Logan Kohler led the Diamond Dawg offense in his four plate appearances. Kohler batted out his second home run of the year, a double and a pair of RBIs to finish the game 3-for-4. David Mershon cleaned up the bases for the Dawgs with a home run and a pair of RBIs to finish 2-for-4 at the plate. Bryce Chance also added a pair of RBIs and ended the game 2-for-5.
Jurrangelo Cijntje got the start on the mound. Cijntje threw seven innings allowing just one run in the game and punching out eight of Alabama's batters. The outing for Cijntje ties his career-high for innings pitched in a game. Tyler Davis grabbed two innings of work and allowed a single hit.
Mississippi State is back in action for the series finale tomorrow. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. and will be aired on SECN+.
