Diamond Dawgs Down No. 2 LSU in SEC Opener

STARKVILLE - The Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs defeated the No. 2 LSU Tigers, 10-4, in the SEC opener for both schools. The Maroon and White recorded 16 hits and limited the Tigers' offense to six hits on the night at Dudy Noble Field.
Evan Siary drew the start for the Dawgs and pitched two scoreless innings before running into a bit of trouble in the third, where he gave up three runs. Nolan Stevens followed and made an immediate impact. In 5.2 innings of work, he only allowed one earned run, one hit, and two walks while striking out eight. Stevens earned his second victory of the year.
The Diamond Dawgs' bats were hot on Friday night, picking up 16 hits and hitting .400 on the evening. Eight Bulldog starters accumulated a hit tonight, and seven had multiple hits. Hunter Hines showed his power on the night, going 2-for-5 with 4 RBIs, with his two hits being home runs. Connor Hujsak led the team at the plate, going 3-for-5, and was the only Dawg with three hits. He also added an RBI on the night. David Mershon stole four bases on the night, the first time a Dawg has done this since 2014.
Mississippi State is back in action on Saturday at 4 p.m. for game two against LSU, which will be broadcast on SEC Network.
