Diamond Dawgs Comeback Falls Short Against #2 LSU
March 16, 2024 | Baseball
STARKVILLE - The Mississippi State Bulldogs' comeback against No. 2 LSU came up short, as they were defeated 9-8 by the Tigers. Playing in front of 13,974 fans, the Tigers jumped out to an early 9-1 lead over the Dawgs, but MSU scored seven unanswered runs before falling in the game.
Khal Stephen drew the start tonight for the Diamond Dawgs, but the tides turned for them when they went to their bullpen. The duo of Karson Ligon and Tyson Hardin were lights out for the Dawgs out of the pen. They each gave up two hits and three walks while striking out three in a combined five 2/3 innings of work. Luke Dotson and Cam Schuelke came into the game in the ninth inning, and they both made crucial plays to keep LSU's lead at one run.
Bryce Chance made his first appearance in the series and went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs, including his three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. Logan Kohler went 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Dakota Jordan and David Mershon also both drew two walks.
Mississippi State is back in action tomorrow for the rubber match against LSU. The game will be broadcast on SECN+, and first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
