Bulldogs Set For Friday Twin Bill In The Big Easy
February 22, 2024 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – It will be a busy Friday in The Big Easy for Mississippi State women's tennis. Â
Â
The Bulldogs have a doubleheader on deck traveling to Tulane at 1 p.m. followed by New Orleans at 5 p.m. MSU will kickoff the day against the Green Wave at the City Park Tennis Center then make the short trek to the Privateers Tennis Center for the nightcap.
Â
Chris Hooshyar's Bulldogs enter Friday at 8-2 and are coming off a 4-1 home victory against Bellarmine this past Sunday. The win consisted of four-straight singles triumphs from Dharani Niroshan, Alexandra Mikhailuk, Alessia Tagliente and Chloé Cirotte to clinch the match.
Â
Mikhailuk boasts an impressive 65 career singles wins and has the opportunity on Friday to enter the school's record books. Mikhailuk is just two singles wins away from tying MSU Hall of Famer Claire Pollard (1986-89) for 10th all-time.
Â
Tulane has a slight 8-7 edge in the overall series against the Bulldogs, but Mississippi State has had the momentum of late by winning four in a row dating back to 2009. The Bulldogs prevailed 4-3 the last time the two met in the Crescent City in 2012 and blanked the Green Wave 7-0 during the last meeting in Starkville in 2021.
Â
Tulane is 5-3 overall and 4-1 at home this season. The Green Wave edged South Florida 4-3 at home this past Sunday but are 0-2 against SEC opponents this year after falling to LSU and Alabama by 6-1 scores.
Â
Friday's match at New Orleans will be just the second time the Privateers have taken the courts this season. New Orleans has had four matches postponed with their lone result being a 4-2 loss at Jackson State on Feb. 7.
Â
The Bulldogs are a perfect 6-0 against New Orleans and have outscored the Privateers 17-1 in the previous three meetings. MSU prevailed 6-1 in Starkville the last time the two teams played in 2013.
