Sunday will be the second-straight and the second of four road games for Mississippi State in December.

It will be the first time in program history that Mississippi State and Chicago State have faced each other. Mississippi State will reunite with Chicago State Head Coach Corry Irvin, who served as an assistant coach on Head Coach Sam Purcell's initial staff from 2022-24. Irvin helped guide the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament in her first season and post consecutive 20 or more win seasons during her time in Starkville.

Mississippi State ranks first in the nation in field-goal percentage defense at 29.7 percent and fifth in scoring defense at 49.4 points per game. The Bulldogs also lead the SEC and are 14th nationally in three-point field-goal percentage defense limiting opponents to 23.2 percent from distance.Â
Mississippi State has held seven of its nine opponents to its lowest point total this season. The Bulldogs have held six opponents under 30.0 percent from the field this season – Memphis 27.1, Alcorn State 28.3 and Alabama State 22.4, Chattanooga 27.1, Mercer 27.8 and Jacksonville 18.9.
Mississippi State has forced 16 or more turnovers in seven games, including 26 against Alabama State on Nov. 13, which was the most since the Bulldogs forced 30 against Texas A&M-Commerce on Dec. 11, 2022. Mississippi State is averaging 20.1 points off turnovers in 2024-25.Â
Mississippi State has won 15 of its last 17 non-conference games dating back to the 2023-24 season. The Bulldogs are 36-7 in non-conference games under Purcell.
Junior guard/forward Debreasha Powe continues to show that she is one of the nation's best from behind the arc. Her 53.3 percent from three (24-45) leads the SEC and ranks fourth nationally. Powe's percentage from three also leads all P4 players.

The combination of graduate student guards Jerkaila Jordan and Eniya Russell has proven to be a dangerous one for Mississippi State's opponents. Jordan has posted consecutive performances of 20 or more points, recording a game-high 25 points in 35 minutes at Georgia Tech on Dec. 4. Jordan is averaging 16.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists over the last five games. Russell leads the Bulldogs with both 14.4 points and 4.4 assists per game. Russell neared a triple-double with 18 points, a career-high nine assists and nine rebounds in 30 minutes at Georgia Tech.
