Mississippi State Drops Match to #15 Texas, 3-1

STARKVILLE – In front of the largest crowd at Newell-Grissom this season, the Mississippi State Bulldogs fell in four sets to the #15 Texas Longhorns. 1,657 fans packed The Griss to become the 3rd largest crowd in program history.
After a tough first two sets, the Bulldogs earned a point in the third set. State jumped to a four-point lead in set three and held on to it for the rest of the set, winning it on an Arissa Smith kill, 25-21. With five tie scores in set four, the Bulldogs fell short on a Longhorn kill.
Karli Schmidt led the Bulldogs in kills against the Longhorns collecting 12. Kailin Newsome and Smith tallied 11 and nine kills, respectively. Newsome picked up her 10th double-double of the season after collecting 10 digs.
The Bulldogs clinched 13 total blocks in the game. Rebecca Walk led the team with four, while Amina Shackelford and Smith collected three a piece.
Ceci Harness led the team in assists on the night with 35. She picked up 11 digs to earn her fifth double-double of the season.
McKenna Yates tallied a team-high 15 digs. Mele Corral-Blagojevich collected a team-high two service aces.
The Bulldogs are back at the Griss Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Oklahoma Sooners. The match will be broadcast on SECN+.
