Mississippi State Runs Past Alabama State, 83-29

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball runs past Alabama State, 83-29, on Education Day inside Humphrey Coliseum on Wednesday.
With the win, Mississippi State improved to 3-0 on the season and 20-1 overall in non-conference home games under Head Coach Sam Purcell.
Junior center Madina Okot recorded the second double-double of her career with 17 points on 8-9 from the field, in addition to 12 rebounds and five steals in 25 minutes.
Graduate student guard/forward Eniya Russell continued her torrid start with 16 points and a career-high eight assists in 26 minutes, while junior guard/forward Debreasha Powe added 14 points on 4-6 from three with six rebounds and three steals in 25 minutes.
The four threes from Powe marked her eighth-career game with four or more threes made.
Mississippi State jumped out to a 13-0 lead through the first four minutes of action that forced Alabama State to use an early timeout. The lead grew to 25-7 at the end of the initial 10 minutes. Mississippi State outscored its opponent 18-9 in the second quarter to head into the locker room at 43-16.
The third quarter turned out to be one for the record books when Mississippi State held Alabama State to a program-record one point allowed out of halftime. Mississippi State's stifling defense held Alabama State to 0-14 from the field and 0-7 from three in the period.
Mississippi State forced Alabama State into 26 turnovers and turned it into 36 points. The Bulldogs' defense has forced 20 or more turnovers in two of three games this season.
Mississippi State returns to action against Chattanooga on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
