Jimoh Shatters University Record At SEC Championships
November 01, 2024 | Cross Country
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Mississippi State cross country held its own against the best in the country at the SEC Championships on Friday morning, finishing 11th with 273 points.
"I'm incredibly proud of these women," head coach Chris Woods said. "I'm excited about the future as we are returning all but one of our top 7 from today. The future is bright. This group has made strides continuously throughout the season, and their hard work has paid off. We are eager to go to the regional meet and continue the leaps and bounds we have achieved this season."
Ramat Jimoh and Gabrielle Boulay were the standouts of the squad, serving as State's two fastest finishers. Jimoh crossed the line first at 19:56.1, finishing 23rd. This was a 23-place and 1.5-minute improvement on her performance from last year's conference race. Boulay was next to cross the line at 19:56.8 finishing 24th. In her first completed conference race, she set a personal best by six seconds. Both athletes are the first women in MSU history to run sub-20 in the 6k, with Jimoh now holding the university record.
The next fastest finishers were Hayley Ogle, Hunter Anderson and Morgan Grace Sheffield. Ogle ran 20:32.7 to finish 64th in her final SEC race. Hunter Anderson set a personal best of 20:42.5 to finish 80th. Morgan Grace Sheffield rounded out the scorers, running 20:57.8 for a new personal best to finish 100th.
