NEW ORLEANS – No. 9 Mississippi State will open a three-game road series against the Tulane Green Wave on Friday, March 4, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium in New Orleans. First pitch between the Diamond Dawgs and Tulane is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday.

DAWG BITES
- Mississippi State enters the series with a 5-4 overall record over the first nine games of the season, with eight of those games coming at home. The Diamond Dawgs closed out an 8-game homestand on Tuesday and are in the midst of six straight games away from Dudy Noble Field.
- The Dawgs are ranked 5th in the SEC and 27th nationally in home runs with 11. Brad Cumbest leads MSU with 3 home runs.
- MSU's pitching staff enters the week ranked 5th in the SEC and 26th nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (11.8).
- MSU RHP Preston Johnson is ranked 3rd among SEC pitchers and 28th in the country in hits allowed per nine innings (2.61). RHP Landon Sims enters the week ranked 3rd in the SEC in strikeouts (17). Sunday starter RHP Cade Smith is 2-0 following his first two starts of the season, which ranks 2nd in the SEC and 6th nationally for wins. Smith also ranks 5th in the league in WHIP (0.56).
- Offensively, the Dawgs are hitting .260 as a team with 11 home runs, six doubles and 58 runs scored. On the mound, MSU pitchers have combined for a 3.92 team ERA in 78.0 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .230 against the Dawgs' pitching staff, while MSU pitchers have struck out 102 batters and walked 34 through the first nine games of the season.
- The series opener will mark the 113th time MSU and Tulane have met on the diamond. The series dates back to 1904 when State defeated Tulane twice by scores of 12-0 and 9-6 in Starkville.
- Mississippi State leads the all-time series over Tulane with a record of 78-32-2 against the Green Wave.
- In 2021, the Diamond Dawgs hosted Tulane in Starkville, taking two of three from the Green Wave on a pair of walk-off wins at Dudy Noble Field.
- Tulane took the opening game of last year's series by a score of 7-3 before the Dawgs bounced back with wins on Saturday and Sunday to clinch the series.
- In the second game of that series, Luke Hancock walked it off with a grand slam in the ninth inning. The Dawgs followed up on Sunday with a walk-off two-run single by Tanner Allen to win 5-4 and clinch the series victory.
- Mississippi State / Tulane Connections:
- Diamond Dawg assistant coach Jake Gautreau played college baseball at Tulane and later served as an assistant coach for the Green Wave. Gautreau helped Tulane to 142 victories in three seasons and led the Green Wave to the program's first College World Series berth in 2001. Gautreau earned seven All-America honors during his time at Tulane.
- Former MSU pitcher Dylan Carmouche transferred to Tulane following the 2021 season and is now a starter in the weekend rotation for the Green Wave. In his one season pitching for the Dawgs, Carmouche posted a 1.23 ERA in 7.1 innings over nine relief appearances.

- Tulane is led by sixth-year head coach Travis Jewett and enter the series with an 8-1 overall record and having won four straight games.
- The Green Wave opened the season with a series sweep over UMass Lowell in New Orleans before defeating Nicholls, 7-5, on the road on Feb. 23.
- Last weekend, Tulane traveled to LA Tech where the Green Wave lost the opening game, 6-1, before clinching the series with wins of 4-1 and 13-5 in a Sunday doubleheader. Tulane also won a pair of games this week over Southeastern Louisiana (W, 23-1) and Texas Southern (W, 10-2).
- The Green Wave finished 2021 with a 31-24 overall record and 17-10 mark in the AAC. Tulane was picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll. Tulane scored 36 votes in the preseason poll and received one first place vote.
