No. 41 MSU Women’s Tennis Set to Host No. 23 Kentucky Thursday

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women's tennis team (10-9, 2-9 SEC), ranked 41st nationally, welcomes No. 23 Kentucky to Starkville on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. Admission to all MSU home tennis matches is free.
"We're really excited for this opportunity to play another home match," associate head coach Sachin Kirtane said. "Kentucky is a very good team. If we focus on the things we need to focus on, we'll have a good chance in this match. The girls have been competing really hard all season. We're looking forward to having a good crowd and another tough SEC match."
Current MSU Tennis COVID Attendance Protocols
Under current COVID protocols, fans may attend MSU home matches at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre, with seating allowed in designated areas only. Continuing MSU and SEC COVID protocols, face coverings over the nose and mouth shall be required as a condition of all guest during ingress, egress, and movement throughout the stadium, as well as any time guests are unable to maintain the recommended physical distance from others who are not in their same household or when actively eating or drinking.

Bulldog Notes
State is ranked 41st nationally in this week's latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll (April 7). Two Bulldogs are currently ranked nationally in singles – No. 32 Emma Antonaki and No. 74 Magda Adaloglou. In doubles, Adaloglou and Tamara Racine find themselves at No. 14 in the country.
MSU owns a 29-19 record in doubles dual match play overall this season as well as an impressive 57-36 mark in singles, with Antonaki and Adaloglou pacing the team. Antonaki owns a team-leading 12 dual match wins with a 12-3 dual match mark, while Adaloglou is 10-2. Adaloglou has claimed 18 of her last 21 singles outings, dating back to last season, while Antonaki has won all but three of her last 22 matches.
True freshman Chloé Cirotte has been stellar in her first semester in the Maroon and White, going 9-4 in dual match competition. Marta Falceto (5-3) also owns a winning mark in dual match play thus far this spring. Alexandra Mikhailuk has notched eight victories, Racine has tallied six, and Lilian Poling owns five in team action for State as well.
Know The Foe
Kentucky enters Thursday's match with a 13-6 ledger, 5-6 in the SEC. The Wildcats travel to Starkville after dropping their last two matches to then-No. 15 Florida (5-1) and then-No. 29 South Carolina (4-2), both on the road.
UK comes to Starkville ranked 23rd as a team. Individually, UK has two players in the current national singles rankings as Akvilė Paražinskaitė is No. 47 and Leseia Jacobs comes in at No. 71. In doubles, Wildcats Fiona Arrese and Paražinskaitė team to form the country's eighth-ranked duo.
UK leads 38-6 in the all-time series with MSU, with the teams having split the last four matches between them. State has claimed the last two contests in Starkville - in 2016 and 2018. The last meeting came on April 7, 2019, when the Wildcats earned a 4-2 victory in Lexington.
Last Time Out
State fell 4-1 to No. 27 Ole Miss in Starkville this past Friday. The Bulldogs earned the doubles point after victories on courts 2 and 3.
Next Up For MSU
Following Thursday's match against Kentucky, the Bulldogs will conclude the 2021 regular season by welcoming No. 21 Vanderbilt to town this Saturday, April 10, at Noon. That match will be Senior Day, as Bulldog Lilian Poling will be honored in a ceremony preceding the match.
