PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Heads to Oklahoma for Big12/SEC Challenge

STARKVILLE – For the first time in program history, Mississippi State women's basketball will travel to Norman, Oklahoma for the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The Bulldogs and Sooners will meet on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT in the Lloyd Noble Center.

Among The Nation's Best
• Mississippi State has blocked 59 shots this season, second-most in the country and just two shy of South Carolina. State is averaging 8.4 blocks per game and is one of just three schools to be averaging at least 8.0 bpg (Georgia, 8.5, and Richmond, 8.1).
• MSU has done a great job of protecting the ball this season. The Bulldogs lead the SEC, and rank 25th nationally, in fewest turnovers at just 73. MSU's 10.4 turnovers per game is the 3rd lowest average in the country and the best in the SEC.
• Mississippi State, while protecting the ball well, is also forcing turnovers on defense. State is averaging 3.6 steals per game which leads the SEC and is ranked 11th nationally. A big reason for the success has been the trio of lead guards for State who have been causing havoc for opposing team guards. Tayler leads the team with 25 steals, followed by JerKaila Jordan (14) and Anastasia Hayes (10).

• Junior Rickea Jackson had a game to remember against McNeese State on Dec. 1.
• The Detroit native scored a career-high 40-points on 18-of-26 shooting (69%). Jackson became the first Bulldog reach the 40-point mark since Teaira McCowan back in Dec. of 2017 when she scored 41.
• Jackson is just the 13th player all-time to score 40-points in a game and her point total ranks as the 10th most points scored in a single-game in program history.
• Against McNeese State, Jackson also added nine rebounds, two steals and two assists. Her 40 points scored is the 3rd-most points scored by any player in the country this season
MSU Milestones to Watch
• Myah Taylor is just three assists shy of passing Julana Harris for 10th on the all-time career assists list in program history.
• Taylor is currently averaging 3.6 assists per game in her career which would rank 6th all-time in program history if the season.
• Jackson is 81 points shy of 1,000 for her career. She will become just the 24th member of the 1,000-point club at MSU. She is also just nine rebounds shy of 300 for her career.
Series History
This will be just the second time that MSU and OU have met on the basketball court and the first at either team's home court. The Sooners lead the series 1-0 with their lone meeting coming back on Nov. 23, 2007, in Cancun, Mexico. Oklahoma won that game 88-73.

• Four Sooners are averaging in double-figures this season. Senior Taylor Robertson leads the way with 19.0 ppg followed by Ana Llanusa (18.1 ppg), Madi Williams (16.7 ppg) and Skylar Vann (10.0 ppg).
• Oklahoma is led by first-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk. She came to OU after spending the previous nine seasons at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa where she posted a record of 192-96 with six consecutive 20+ win seasons and three NCAA Tournament berths.
