State Men’s Tennis Welcomes Middle Tennessee Friday, Tulane Sunday

STARKVILLE – After posting another 7-0 shutout last weekend, the Mississippi State men's tennis team is set to host Middle Tennessee Friday, January 29, and Tulane Sunday, January 31, at MSU's Rula Tennis Pavilion. The Bulldogs (3-0) will face the Blue Raiders (2-1) at 1 p.m. CT Friday and the Green Wave (3-0) at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday.

MSU In The Oracle ITA Rankings…
In the ITA national singles rankings, State is led by senior and two-time All-American Giovanni Oradini at No. 36 in the country. Following right behind is junior Florian Broska at No. 87 nationally in singles. In doubles, the Bulldogs have two duos currently ranked with Broska and freshman Nicolas Ocana earning the nation's No. 28 spot. Rounding out the rankings is the duo of Alberto Colas and Gregor Ramskogler, coming in at 47th nationally.
Know The Foe: Middle Tennessee
Middle Tennessee will enter Friday's match with a 2-1 overall mark. The Blue Raiders opened the season with a 6-1 defeat of Louisiana. In this past weekend's ITA Kickoff, Middle Tennessee fell to third-ranked host Ohio State in their opener before rebounding to shutout Iowa (4-0). MT has one player currently ranked nationally – Oskar Michalek comes in at No. 102 in singles.
State and Middle Tennessee have not meet since the 2013 campaign. The Bulldogs own a 17-2 all-time record against the Blue Raiders.
Know The Foe: Tulane
Tulane is 3-0 overall this season after sweeping Alcorn State in a double header and downing Texas San Antonio, all in New Orleans this past weekend, to open their 2021 slate. The Green Wave will play at Alabama this Friday before making the trip to Starkville Sunday. TU is led by Hamish Stewart, who is currently ranked No. 40 nationally in singles, and Ewan Moore at No. 53.
State leads the series with Tulane 14-7 (since 1969). The teams have met in each of the last five seasons, with MSU taking the first four of those. The Green Wave claimed the most recent meeting last spring in Starkville.
Need To Know…
The Bulldogs defeated Louisiana 7-0 at home last Friday. The Bulldogs won every singles match in straight sets with Gregor Ramskogler providing the match clincher at the No. 5 spot. Alberto Colas and Nemanja Malesevic extended their team-leading singles win streaks to five matches each. Bulldog true freshman Carles Hernandez (3-0) and sophomore Davide Tortora (6-0) extended their singles win streaks at home.
Next Up For MSU…
After this weekend's action, the Bulldogs will welcome No. 3 TCU to Starkville next Friday, February 5. Following that affair, Memphis and Jackson State arrive in town to take on the Bulldogs Sunday, February 7.
