CINCINNATI, Ohio – Mississippi State's women's tennis team captured its third victory in a row to start the 2020 season Sunday in a 5-2 decision at Xavier.

With the win, State improved to 3-0 on the season, marking the first time since 2016 that the Bulldogs have done so.

The Bulldogs didn't take long to jump ahead on Sunday, as all three doubles teams posted 6-3 triumphs over the Musketeers. On court one, the 43rd-ranked State duo of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine gave MSU an early advantage, downing Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas. Then, on court three, State's freshman-senior tandem of Marta Falceto and Sara Lizariturry clinched the doubles point for the Maroon and White, ousting XU's Anna Letto and Kaitlin Ruether. Moments later, No. 45 Emma Antonaki and Alexandra Mikhailuk rounded out the doubles sweep with a win at the second position over Rachael Reichenbach and Anna Roggenburk.

In singles, redshirt freshman Valeria Nikolaev picked up the first victory of the day for MSU, rolling past Ruether 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 5 position. Xavier cut the Bulldogs' lead to 2-1 when Kyle edged out No. 84 Antonaki 6-1, 7-6(7) on court one.

Adaloglou responded for MSU with a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Thomas in the No. 3 spot. Then, Mikhailuk clinched the win for State with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 decision over Reichenbach on court 4.

The Maroon and White extended their advantage to 5-1 as the rookie Falceto rallied back from a set down for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over XU's Letto on court six.

The Musketeers grabbed the final point of the day at the No. 2 spot where Racine dropped a tight 6-4, 7-6(5) decision to Roggenburk.

The Bulldogs will continue their seven-match swing away from home next week as they travel to Durham, North Carolina, for the 2020 ITA Kick-Off Weekend beginning Saturday, Jan. 25. There, MSU will take on Tulsa on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT in the opening round before facing either No. 5 Duke or Kansas State on Sunday.
