MOSCOW, Idaho – Mississippi State soccer closes its non-conference road swing at Idaho on Sunday. Kickoff from the Kibbie Dome is set for 5 p.m. CT, and the match will be streamed on WatchBigSky.com/Pluto TV Channel 534.
State is coming off a physical, 1-0 win at Eastern Washington on Friday. MaKayla Waldner scored MSU's lone goal, marking the ninth game-winner of her career, which tied the program's career record.
"We're looking forward to going to Idaho and playing the strong team that they have," head coach James Armstrong said. "Obviously, we're looking to improve upon some things from our last performance and complete the weekend."
In Idaho, the Bulldogs meet a team that finished second in the Big Sky last year and have proven to be a tough test in the Dome. The Vandals are 25-11-9 at home since they joined the Big Sky Conference in 2014. Last year, they were unbeaten at home with a 6-0-1 mark.
A defensive battle should await MSU on Sunday as both teams have held opponents to fewer than 10 shots per game this year. Both teams have also registered shutouts in two of their first three matches.
After setting a program record by allowing just 11.5 shots per game last year, MSU is currently holding teams to 10.7. Idaho's opponents have mustered just 6.3 attempts per game with only seven total on goal. The Vandals have allowed just one goal, and that came off a penalty kick in a season-opening loss against Boise State.
The Bulldogs are looking to win three of their first four games for the third year in a row. Prior to 2017, MSU had not achiever the feat since 2012. Armstrong would also become just the second Bulldog coach to win three of his first four games at the helm.
State returns home next week to open a six-match homestand on Sept. 5 against UT-Martin before hosting No. 20/18 Memphis on Sept. 8.
