Mangum moves into No. 2 in career hits at Mississippi State, pushes into No. 7 on SEC career-hits list
STARKVILLE – The No. 2 Mississippi State baseball team dropped the series finale to No. 17 LSU, 11-2, on Saturday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field. The Bulldogs collected 10 hits to the Tigers' 11, but MSU stranded nine runners on base, while LSU took advantage of six walks and three State errors to take the Southeastern Conference series.
Mississippi State (24-5, 5-4 SEC) dropped its first series of the season, as LSU (19-9, 6-3 SEC) was able to win the final two games of the weekend after MSU claimed the Thursday night meeting.
The Tigers scored a single run in the first inning on an Antoine Duplantis leadoff home run, before adding two in the fourth and one in the fifth. A four-run seven was followed by a single run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to build an 11-0 edge for LSU.
Sophomore Rowdey Jordan broke up the shutout with a two-run ninth inning home run to right field, his first home run of the season.
Senior Jake Mangum moved up two spots on the Mississippi State and SEC all-time hits charts with a pair of hits. Mangum singled and doubled to push his career total 328, moving him past Travis Chapman (327; 1997-2000) and into a tie for No. 2 all-time at MSU with Richard Lee (328; 1995-98). On the SEC list, he passed LSU's Jason Williams (327; 1993-96).
A couple of notable streaks continued on Sunday, with senior Elijah MacNamee pushing his reached base streak to 24 games with a 1-for-4 day at the plate, while junior Dustin Skelton pushed his career-long hitting streak to 10 games. Sophomore Jordan Westburg advanced his hitting streak to seven games and moved his reached base streak to 13 games.

Head Coach Chris Lemonis
On what the focus is going into next week
"We've got to get better. We just have to get back to practice this week and get back to fundamental baseball. In our league, you're not going to win them all, so you've got to be able to bounce back and play good baseball. We need two good days of practice and then we need a good [effort] on Wednesday, and then we need to get ready for Tennessee."
