February 06, 2016 | Women's Tennis
Minneapolis, Minn. – On the first day of the Courtside Classic, the 29th-ranked Mississippi State women's tennis team (4-1) posted an impressive 6-1 win over 63rd-ranked New Mexico (3-1) to advance to Sunday's championship match.
“I am proud of how my girls performed today,” head coach Daryl Greenan said. “We started off on fire in doubles, setting the tone for the match. We beat a good team today and it was a solid performance. There is a good level of tennis here and playing the winner of this next match will be a tough challenge.”
To conclude the event, State will face either 41st-ranked DePaul or 60th-ranked host Minnesota in the championship match Sunday at 9 a.m. CT.
The Bulldogs started Saturday's contest with dominant performances at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions in doubles. MSU's tandem of Jasmine Lee and Louise Ronaldson defeated UNM's Rachana Bhat and Dominique Dulski 6-1 on court 2. At No. 1, the State duo of Madison Harrison and Georgiana Patrasc also posted a 6-1 victory over New Mexico's Andrea LeBlanc and Emily Olivier to clinch the doubles point and give MSU a 1-0 lead. The remaining doubles match was suspended with State leading 4-3.

At the No. 4 position, MSU's 36th-ranked Anastasia Rentouli upended the Lobos' Ruth Copas in straight-sets 6-1, 6-1, snapping a five-match winning streak for Copas.
