No. 25 MSU Caps Road Trip With 7-0 Victory At Samford

Birmingham, Ala. – In dominating fashion, the Mississippi State women's tennis team (7-1) blanked Samford (3-4) 7-0 to close out its weekend road trip which featured back-to-back shutouts. State has now won four-straight matches and its only loss thus far has come to No. 7 Duke.
MSU started Saturday's match overpowering Samford in doubles. State's tandem of Anastasia Rentouli and Kristina Vozniak belted Samford's duo of Georgina Jupp and Savannah Wood 6-2 at the No. 3 position. On court 2, the Bulldog pair of Jasmine Lee and Louise Ronaldson made quick work of foes Ellie Gerlach and Iva Parapunova 6-1 to clinch the doubles point and give MSU an early 1-0 lead. Rounding out doubles action, 51st-ranked Madison Harrison and Georgiana Patrasc dropped a 6-4 decision to Samford's Carita Moolman and Jessica Northcutt at the top position.
State continued to control the match in singles, with the ninth-ranked Lee making quick work of Samford's Jessica Northcutt 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 position to extend State's lead to 2-0. On court 2, MSU's No. 123 Harrison upended Samford's Carita Moolman 6-0, 6-3 to give State a solid 3-0 lead.
Bulldog Jennifer Brown clinched the match in straight sets over Samford's Jupp 6-3, 6-0.
State would claim wins in the remaining three matches of the day as well. At No. 3, the Bulldogs' Patrasc retired her foe Parapunova 6-1, 6-4, extending her winning streak to nine matches. At the No. 4 position, MSU's 37th-ranked Rentouli ousted Samford's Gerlach 6-2, 6-3. To round out the day's play, the Bulldogs' Vozniak had a comeback win over Samford's Wood 5-7, 7-5, 1-0(2) on court 5.
“I am proud of our girls' effort this weekend,” head coach Daryl Greenan said. “It took a complete effort to sweep two solid teams.”
MSU returns to the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre next Saturday, Feb. 27th, as the Bulldogs host Louisiana Lafayette (10 a.m.) and Southern Miss (2 p.m.) in a twinbill to conclude non-conference play.
