No. 25 MSU Women?s Tennis Posts 7-0 Shutout At UAB

Birmingham, Ala. – In its first match in nearly two weeks, the 25th-ranked Mississippi State women's tennis team (6-1) showed no rust in a 7-0 shutout of UAB (2-6) to start off the weekend Friday afternoon.
“We did a good job against a feisty UAB team today,” head coach Daryl Greenan said. “It has been almost two weeks since our last match and this is the first one outdoors in over a month. I thought we handled the conditions well and picked up a solid win.”
MSU started Friday's match with dominant performances at all three doubles positions. State's tandem of Jasmine Lee and Louise Ronaldson shutout UAB's Sophie Dodds and Reghan Lynch 6-0 at the No. 2 position. On court 3, the Bulldog duo of Anastasia Rentouli and Kristina Vozniak ousted the Blazers' Catherine Ragon and McKenna Root 6-2 to clinch the doubles point and give MSU a 1-0 lead. State's 51st-ranked tandem of Madison Harrison and Georgiana Patrasc then defeated Pardis Kianoush and Elaine Simon 6-2 on court one to conclude doubles play.
The Bulldogs carried their momentum into singles play, sweeping the Blazers at all positions there as well.
State's Patrasc made quick work of UAB's Ragon 6-1, 6-1 on court 3 to extend MSU's lead to 2-0. Following on court 5, Vozniak belted the Blazers' Dodds 6-1, 6-2 to give State a commanding 3-0 lead.
MSU's 123rd-ranked Harrison would then clinch the match in a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory over UAB's Simon on court 2.
The Bulldogs would claim wins in the final three matches of the day as well. At the No. 4 position, State's 37th-ranked rookie Rentouli retired UAB's Root 6-2, 6-4. MSU's Ronaldson defeated the Blazers' Lynch 6-3, 6-2 on court 6. And at No. 1, MSU's ninth-ranked Lee outlasted UAB's Kianoush 6-1, 4-6, 1-0(3).
MSU will face Samford (3-3) at noon on Saturday to close out its weekend in Birmingham. State will return home on Feb. 27 for a twinbill with ULL and Southern Miss.
