Bulldog Women?s Tennis Blanks UAB 7-0

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After suffering its first loss of the season last weekend, the Mississippi State women's tennis team (4-1) rebounded in a big way Saturday, earning a dominant 7-0 victory against UAB (0-2) at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
MSU kicked things off by sweeping the Blazers in doubles play, as newcomer Jasmine Lee made her debut by earning a 6-1 victory with junior Georgiana Patrasc at No. 2. The Bulldogs would clinch the doubles point, as the duo of Martina Frantova and Naomi Tran downed UAB's Paula Castro and Pardis Kiranoush 6-2 at No. 1. MSU would put the exclamation point on doubles play, when Jennifer Brown and Timea Guibe picked up a tough 6-4 victory on No. 3 against UAB's Rachel Daniell and Catherine Ragon.
Mississippi State would continue its dominance into singles play, as Guibe picked up a quick 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6, to remain unbeaten in dual match play. Frantova would follow at court three, taking a convincing 6-3, 6-3 decision against Elaine Simon for a 3-0 MSU lead. The match clincher would be delivered by the freshman Brown at No. 5, as she defeated UAB's Amy Lowther 6-3, 6-4.
After the clinch, the remaining three matches were played out. The 76th-ranked junior Patrasc defeated Daniell on court one, 6-2, 6-2. Determined not to start her MSU career with a singles loss, Lee fought back impressively after dropping the first set, to take a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Freshman Louise Ronaldson would also earn a big three-set victory on court four, rallying back for an 0-6, 6-4, 1-0(7) win against Catherine Ragon.
Mississippi State will return to action on the weekend of Feb. 13-14, hitting the road once again to face Winthrop and East Tennessee State. The Bulldogs will return to home action on Thursday, Feb. 19, hosting No. 71 Samford at 3 p.m.
