Fourth-Ranked Florida Drops Lady Bulldogs

STARKVILLE, Miss. - A talented Florida squad (15-2, 5-0 SEC) proved to be too much for the Mississippi State women's tennis team (9-6, 1-4 SEC) Friday afternoon, ousting the 57th-ranked Lady Bulldogs, 7-0, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
It was a swift start in doubles for the Gators, as they took wins at each court in order. At No. 1, UF's third-ranked duo of Allie Will and Marrit Boonstra ousted the State tandem of Radka Ferancova and Danielle Terpko, 8-0, before the 63rd-ranked Gator team of Lauren Embree and Anastasia Revzina took an 8-2 triumph over MSU's Olesya Tsigivntseva and Natalia Mayuk.
With the doubles point clinched, Florida then took a win at court three, as Claire Bartlett and Joanna Mather defeated the Lady Bulldog team of Valeriya Makarycheva and Mariia Ryzhova, 8-4.
Up 1-0, Florida needed three wins to take the match. Those would come quickly, as the Gators took victories at each court. The first Florida netter to pick up a win was ninth-ranked Willie, who ousted State's Tsigivinsteva 6-1, 6-1 at the second position. Lady Bulldog teammate Makarycheva did not fare much better, as she also took a 6-1, 6-1 loss at the fourth court.
No. 17 Lauren Embree then clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Ferancova at the top position. That Florida win was followed by three more, coming at courts three, five and six.
Mississippi State's women's tennis team will be back in action Sunday, when it travels to Columbia, SC., to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. Match time is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
