MSU Women's Tennis Takes Down Florida Gulf Coast

FT. MYERS, Fla. - In a much needed break from conference action, Mississippi State's 54th-ranked women's tennis team (9-4, 1-3 SEC) downed Florida Gulf Coast (5-8) Wednesday afternoon, 6-1, for the Lady Bulldogs' eighth non-SEC win of the year.
"We had trouble focusing some today, but overall we did a good job of competing," said Lady Bulldog head coach Daryl Greenan. "Today, we got a good win over a very scrappy team."
Mississippi State was strong from the start, sweeping through the doubles courts. MSU's tandem of Olesya Tsigvintseva and Natalia Mayuk ousted FGC's duo of Jessica Sweeting and Jen Evans, 8-5. Meanwhile, Lady Bulldog teammates Radka Ferancova and Danielle Terpko took an 8-2 triumph over the Eagle pair of Iris Rendon and Bibiana Almeida, while State's Valeriya Makarycheva and Mariia Ryzhova defeated Priscilla Vilemond and Eva Sambrano, 8-5.
In singles, Mississippi State quickly put the match away with straight-set wins on five of the six courts. At No. 2, Ferancova ousted Zambrano 6-2, 6-0, while Mayuk took a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Farah Leclercq at the third spot.
At the final three courts, State continued its impressive play as Ryzhova took a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rendon at the fourth position. Her victory was coupled with Makarycheva's 6-1, 6-3 triumph at the fifth court and Terpko's 6-3, 6-4 win over FGC's Morgan Bechtel at No. 6.
Mississippi State concludes non-conference action later this week, when they travel to Miami, Fla., to take on Florida International on Saturday. Match time is slated for 10 a.m. CT.
