State Women's Tennis Falls To No. 17 Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mississippi State's 50th-ranked women's tennis team (8-4, 1-3 SEC) concluded a tough weekend Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 loss to No. 17 Arkansas (12-4, 2-2 SEC) at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center.
The Lady Razorbacks were dominant from the start, sweeping MSU in doubles. At the third position, State's Danielle Terpko and Valeriya Makarycheva fell 8-2 to the UA tandem of Stephanie Roy and Valentina Starkova, before the Lady Razorbacks clinched the doubles point with a win at the second court. In that contest, State's pair of Mariia Ryzhova and Radka Ferancova dropped an 8-0 decision to the Arkansas team of Kelsey Sundaram and Kate Lukomskya. Meanwhile, Olesya Tsigivntseva and Natalia Mayuk were ousted by a score of 8-1 to Arkansas' No. 18 tandem of Anouk Tigu and Claudine Paulson.
It was much of the same in singles, as Mississippi State was unable to get past a tough Arkansas squad. The Lady Razorbacks took straight set wins on each court, and never looked back on their way to a 7-0 win.
UA's Kelsey Sundarum was the first to pick up a win with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Makarycehva at the fifth position. Her victory was followed by 6-1, 6-1 triumph for Paulson over State's Terpko, putting the score at 3-0. UA then quickly clinched the match at the No. 4 court where Roy ousted MSU's Ryzhova, 6-3, 6-1.
From there, Arkansas took straight-set wins at the top three courts to take the 7-0 win.
Mississippi State takes a break from Southeastern Conference play this week and travels to Miami, Fla., to take on Florida Gulf Coast and Florida International.
