Tough LSU Team Too Much For Lady Bulldog Tennis

BATON ROUGE, La. - Mississippi State's women's tennis team (8-3, 1-2 SEC) could not get past a talented LSU (3-8, 1-2 SEC) squad Friday afternoon, falling to the Tigers, 6-1, at W.T. Robinson Stadium.
"We knew going in that LSU is a scrappy team. It is a team that is better than their record, and we just could not figure them out today," said Lady Bulldog head coach Daryl Greenan. "Today's match was a lot like the one against Vanderbilt. We made some errors and just could not get going."
The 50th-ranked Lady Bulldogs struggled from the start, as LSU swept through the doubles courts. The Tiger duo of Kaitlin Burns and Whitney Wolf started the trend with an 8-2 victory over Olesya Tsigvintseva and Natalia Mayuk at the first court. That loss was followed by two more 8-2 defeats at the second and third courts for MSU.
Hoping to build up momentum, Mississippi State headed to the singles courts. It was much of the same though, as LSU knocked off the Lady Bulldogs in strong fashion. At the top position, LSU's Wolf ousted Tsigvintseva 6-1, 6-3, while Ebie Wilson defeated MSU's Valeriya Makarycheva 6-1, 6-3.
Up 3-0, LSU sealed the match at the fourth position where Keri Frankenberger took a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Lady Bulldog sophomore Mariia Ryzhova. From there, the Tigers continued their strong performance with wins at the second and third positions. LSU's Burns defeated Ferancova 6-4, 6-2, while Kantor ousted Mayuk 6-1,7-5.
State's lone win on the day came at the sixth court, where Terpko continued her impressive play with a 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) win over LSU's Robinson.
Next up, Mississippi State travels to Arkansas to take on the 15th-ranked Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Ark., Sunday. Match time is slated for Noon CT.
