Lady Bulldog Tennis Powers Past Samford

STARKVILLE, Miss. - It was another strong showing for Mississippi State's women's tennis team (3-1) on Thursday afternoon as they ousted Samford, 5-2, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center.
"We are working hard and staying in points right now," said head coach Daryl Greenan. "We had to battle today though. Samford is tough team. I thought we played tight early but we found a way."
State came out strong in doubles, taking big wins on each court. The Lady Bulldog duo of Radka Ferancova and Mariia Ryzhova were dominant in an 8-0 win over Samford's tandem of Andrie Meiring and Rebecca Kirven at the second position. MSU followed that victory up with a triumph at court No. 2 where the State sophomore duo of Natalia Mayuk and Olesya Tsigvintseva were just as dominant in an 8-2 win over Taylor Morgan and Lindsey Mallory of Samford. Meanwhile, it was much of the same at court No. 3 as State's pair of Valeriya Makarycheva and Danielle Terpko ousted Samford's Madelie Van Rensburg and Stephanie Parkison, 8-4.
Samford then evened up the score at 1-1 early in singles play when Kirven took a 6-1, 6-2 win over State's Terpko at the sixth position. That would as close as it would get the rest of the way though. The Lady Bulldogs took wins at courts four and two, before Makarycheva clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Samford's Van Rensberg. The two teams then split the remaining two courts to put the final total at 5-2 in favor of Mississippi State.
The 68th-ranked MSU women's tennis team will be back in action Sunday when it plays host to Louisiana-Monroe. First serve for that contest is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
