Lafayette, La. – The Bulldogs are 2-0 in the Ragin' Cajuns Classic after defeating Jackson State University 3-0.
The Bulldogs had 14 kills in the first set which helped lead to an 8-0 scoring run to secure the set. The second set State held on to a .474 hitting percentage with 19 kills then held the Jaguars to a .081 hitting percentage in set three to finish the sweep.
The Bulldogs hit .325 on the day, picking up 46 kills and six service aces. Avery Power, McKenna Yates, Cayley Hanson, Kyla Scharfman, Lindsey Mangelson, and Bernardita Aguilar each recorded an ace.
Aguilar ended the day swinging .400 with 12 kills. Mangelson collected 15 kills, while Noella Obi picked up six, and Paloma Routaboul added seven.
Mangelson also picked up 17 digs to lead the team and set a new season high. Yates had 12 digs with Aguilar at eight. Cayley Hanson also picked up a kill and collected 39 assists.
The Bulldogs will be back on the court tomorrow at 11 a.m. for their final match of the Ragin' Cajuns Classic. They will face UT Arlington in their first match-up since 2013.
