Bulldogs Drop Final Match Of Jaguar Classic

MOBILE, Ala. – Mississippi State dropped the final match of the Jaguar Classic to the Rice Owls on Sunday, 3-1. The Bulldogs moved to 2-1 with the loss.
The Bulldogs dropped the first two sets to Rice, 25-20 and 25-22. State was able to take a dramatic third set, 28-26, which saw 12 ties in the set. In the fourth, State would go on a 4-0 run to gain an early 5-1 lead to try and force a fifth set, but the Dawgs were unable to keep that momentum going, dropping the set 25-17.
Lindsey Mangelson picked up her first double-double of the season with 18 kills and 13 digs, both of which led the Bulldogs in the contest. Paloma Routaboul made her Mississippi State debut, acquiring 10 kills in the match. Noella Obi picked up eight kills with a .583 hitting percentage.
Obi also led the Dawgs defensively with five total blocks. McKenna Yates collected 12 digs as the libero. Cayley Hanson dished out 46 assists in the contest.
The Bulldogs will return to Starkville to play their first match inside the Newell-Grissom building when they host the SEC x BIG Ten Challenge. The first match is set for Thursday, September 3 against Iowa. First serve is set for 7 p.m. on SEC Network+.
