No. 13 MSU Falls Late In Regular Season Finale

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 13 Mississippi State kept answering No. 10 Texas A&M on Saturday morning, using three home runs and an eighth-inning rally to put itself in position for a series-clinching win before the Aggies pushed back late.
Bear Harrison delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting Texas A&M past Mississippi State 7-6 at Blue Bell Park despite three home runs from the Diamond Dawgs.
MSU (39-16, 16-14 SEC) outhit Texas A&M 11-7 and erased multiple deficits, including one in the eighth inning on Jacob Parker's go-ahead two-run homer. But State issued 13 walks, and the Aggies (39-13, 18-11) turned those free passes into enough traffic to rally late.
Noah Sullivan went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and an RBI for the Bulldogs. Parker finished 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, Ace Reese hit his 20th home run of the season and Ryder Woodson and Gehrig Frei each added two hits.
State has now hit 102 home runs this season, marking back-to-back years to eclipse the century mark in homers for the first time in program history. The Diamond Dawgs need one more to match the single season mark set in 2025.
Reese also made history, joining Will Clark and Rafael Palmeiro as the only players in Mississippi State history to have back-to-back years with 20-plus homers.
Texas A&M struck first in the third without a hit. Caden Sorrell walked, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Jake Duer reached on an error to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
Mississippi State answered in the fourth after Sullivan singled, Vytas Valincius followed with a base hit and Reed Stallman walked to load the bases. Bryce Chance's groundout brought Sullivan home to tie it.
The Aggies retook the lead in the bottom half. Blake Binderup and Boston Kellner drew back-to-back walks, Gavin Grahovac loaded the bases with another walk and Sorrell's fielder's choice pushed Texas A&M back in front. Chris Hacopian followed with an RBI single to center, making it 3-1.
The Diamond Dawgs responded immediately with one of their biggest innings of the day. Woodson singled to open the fifth before Reese launched a two-run homer to right field to tie the game. One batter later, Sullivan drove a solo shot to center field, giving MSU a 4-3 lead.
That advantage held until the seventh, when Texas A&M moved back ahead. Duer walked to start the inning and Harrison doubled down the left-field line. Ben Royo's sacrifice fly tied the game, and Kellner later singled down the right-field line to score Harrison for a 5-4 Aggies lead.
State punched back again in the eighth. Sullivan singled to left, and Parker followed with a two-run homer to right field off Clayton Freshcorn, putting the Bulldogs back in front 6-5.
Texas A&M had one final answer. Sorrell walked to begin the bottom of the eighth, Hacopian singled and Travis Chestnut moved both runners with a sacrifice bunt. Harrison then singled to left, scoring both runners and giving the Aggies the lead for good.
Freshcorn earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings. Charlie Foster took the loss for Mississippi State after allowing two runs on four hits in one inning.
Ryan McPherson started for MSU and allowed one run on one hit with four walks and three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. State used seven pitchers in the game, with Jack Gleason getting out of further trouble in the eighth after Texas A&M had already taken the lead.
The Bulldogs now await their seeding for the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Alabama next week.
