No. 13 State Loses Slugfest To 10th-Ranked Aggies
May 15, 2026 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — No. 13 Mississippi State kept swinging Friday night, but every time the Diamond Dawgs punched back, No. 10 Texas A&M had another answer.
Caden Sorrell drove in six runs and Blake Binderup added a three-run homer as the Aggies outlasted MSU 11-9 in a back-and-forth SEC slugfest at Blue Bell Park.
State (39-15, 16-13 SEC) finished with 12 hits, four home runs and several momentum-shifting swings, but Texas A&M (38-13, 17-11) piled up 16 hits and scored in five of its first six innings to even the series.
Noah Sullivan powered the Bulldogs' offense with a pair of home runs and three RBIs, while Ryder Woodson went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBIs. Reed Stallman also homered and had two hits, and Kevin Milewski added two hits and an RBI.
Texas A&M jumped in front quickly in the first when Gavin Grahovac singled and Sorrell followed with a two-run homer to right field. Mississippi State answered in the second, taking advantage of an Aggie throwing error and run-scoring singles from Milewski and Woodson to grab a 3-2 lead.
The lead did not last long. Binderup doubled to start the bottom of the second, Grahovac walked and Sorrell ripped a two-run triple down the right-field line to put Texas A&M back in front 4-3.
The Diamond Dawgs responded again in the third. Sullivan led off with a solo homer to left-center, and after Texas A&M went to Shane Sdao out of the bullpen, Stallman launched a solo shot to center to give State a 5-4 advantage.
But the Aggies answered with their biggest inning of the night. Ben Royo singled, Jorian Wilson doubled and Binderup followed with a three-run homer to left. Grahovac later added a solo shot to right, pushing Texas A&M back ahead 8-5.
MSU kept the pressure on in the fourth. Milewski doubled down the right-field line and Woodson crushed a two-run homer to left, trimming the deficit to 8-7. The Bulldogs had a chance to keep the inning going after Ace Reese walked and Sullivan singled, but Sdao escaped the jam.
Texas A&M stretched the lead again in the fifth when Wilson singled, Boston Kellner followed with a base hit and Sorrell doubled down the left-field line to score both runners.
State had one more charge in the sixth. Gehrig Frei doubled to open the inning, and Sullivan followed two batters later with his second homer of the night — a two-run shot to right-center — to make it 10-9.
The Aggies added an insurance run in the bottom half when Jake Duer walked, Royo singled and Kellner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Mississippi State's bullpen kept the Bulldogs within striking distance late. Ben Davis inherited a bases-loaded jam in the sixth and escaped without further damage, then worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Clayton Freshcorn closed it for Texas A&M, throwing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts to earn his 12th save. Sdao picked up the win after allowing five runs over four innings, while Duke Stone took the loss for MSU after giving up seven runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Texas A&M's middle of the order did most of the damage. Sorrell finished 3-for-5 with a homer, triple, double and six RBIs, while Binderup went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Grahovac scored three times and added a solo homer.
