
Distance Dawgs Run Hard At Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Mississippi State track and field concluded the first day of competition in the Wake Forest Invitational this evening.
A small group of the women's distance team took on the meet in North Carolina, with three events being contested on Friday evening.
Competition began in the open women's 800m, with Mallory Streetman running the fastest time overall at 2:05.76 for a new personal best.
The day continued in the women's 3000m steeplechase, with Nelly Jemeli, an NCAA Championship qualifier in the event, opening her season. Jemeli finished second overall in 9:53.61, which is the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season and program history. Her time also leads the SEC.
Action concluded in the 10,000m, with Naomi Jepleting and Louise Stonham both racing the distance for the first time collegiately. Both athletes ran two of the fastest times in program history, with Jepleting finishing in 34:20.30 for the second fastest time ever run by a Bulldog. Stonham finished closely behind in 34:45.75 for the fourth fastest time in MSU history.
Action will begin at UF tomorrow afternoon and conclude at Wake Forest tomorrow evening.
