April 13, 2026 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball announced the addition of one of the most decorated Mississippi high school athletes in the form of rising sophomore Macie Phifer for the 2026-27 season.
Â
Phifer, a 6-1 guard from New Albany, Mississippi, began her college career this past season at Middle Tennessee State. She started all 33 games for the Blue Raiders and averaged 11.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game. She earned All-Conference USA Honorable Mention and Freshman team honors.
Â
Phifer scored in double figures 17 times last season, with four 20+ point performances. She recorded a season-high of 22 points against Delaware, where she went 9-12 from the floor and knocked down a season-best four threes on five attempts, along with five rebounds and six steals. That contest marked one of four times where Phifer played every minute of the game, which includes Middle Tennessee's overtime contest against FIU, where she finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals in 50 minutes of action.
Â
Phifer and the Blue Raiders took on the Bulldogs in the championship game of the Emerald Coast Classic in November, where she finished just shy of her first career double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Phifer went on to record a pair of double-doubles on the season,
Â
Phifer prepped at Ingomar High School, where she was a six-year letter winner under head coach Trent Adair. She finished her career as the all-time leading scorer in Ingomar history with 3,519 career points. Phifer also excelled at softball and volleyball, as she was an 11-time all-state selection in those three sports combined. Over her career, she won a combined seven state championships in basketball and volleyball.
Â
Phifer is the second transfer portal addition for the Bulldogs, as she joins rising senior Cali Smallwood as those who have entered the portal to Starkville. In addition to those two, the Bulldogs return their two top scorers from last season in the form of SEC All-Defensive and All-Freshman team member Madison Francis and Favour Nwaedozi, who finished as one of the four players in the SEC to average a double-double last season.
Â
State also returns midseason addition Melissa Guillet and will see two incoming freshmen: Alabama's Gatorade Girl's Player of the Year, Lani Smallwood, and Tennessee's Miss Basketball, Andrea Flores.
