April 01, 2026 | Baseball
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Tomas Valincius was selected to Baseball America's midseason watch list for Pitcher of the Year.
Valincius has been terrific through seven starts this season. The sophomore left-hander is 6-0 with a 0.91 earned run average, 56 strikeouts and 11 walks across 39 2/3 innings. Opposing hitters are batting just .173 against him.
During Southeastern Conference play, Valincius has been even better. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder from Lockport, Illinois is a perfect 3-0 with a flawless ERA, 30 strikeouts and only five walks through 19 innings of work. SEC hitters sport a .109 batting average against him.
Baseball America will announce four finalists for its Pitcher of the Year award on May 27. Production served as the primary evaluation factor for inclusion, with prospect status, feedback from professional evaluators and level of competition also considered strongly.
Valincius and the fourth-ranked Diamond Dawgs are set to host No. 5 Georgia in a three-game series beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m.
