Madison Francis Earns Multiple SEC Postseason Honors
March 03, 2026 | Women's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Madison Francis was named to both the SEC's All-Defensive and All-Freshman teams, the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday morning.
Â
Francis has built a reputation for stuffing the stat sheet, as she has averaged 13.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, a conference-leading 2.8 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.4 assists per game. Francis' games only took a step forward once conference play began, as she is averaging 13.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, 1.6 steals and 1.1 assists against conference opponents.
Â
Francis is not just the only freshman to be named to this season's All-Defensive Team but is the only underclassman on the list. She becomes the first freshman to be listed to the SEC All-Defensive team since 2020 and the first Bulldog freshman to do so since 2009.
Â
Francis' shot-blocking ability opened eyes not just in the conference, but nationwide, as her 84 total blocks lead the nation. She has rejected at least one shot in 28 games this season, the most of any player in the nation. She has recorded three or more blocks in a game 16 times, which leads the SEC and ranks second in the nation. She has eclipsed six blocks in four of those games, the most games of any player in the nation.
Â
Francis was among the conference's top freshmen in every category, ranking second among the SEC's rookies in points (13.4) and rebounds (7.5), while standing third on the leaderboard in steals per game (1.5).
Â
Francis and the Bulldogs will begin postseason play with the SEC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, March 4, when they take on the 12th-seeded Florida Gators. Tipoff for the contest is set for 12:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
